Baby Shower | Boho Chic Picnic

How do you create the perfect Boho Chic Picnic baby shower?
Well, if you live in Durban you hit up all the suppliers mentioned in this post, they know what to do 🙂

I had the honor and priviledge of planning & (with a lot of help) hosting my best friend’s baby shower for her third little treasure on the way.
Years prior we had planned a mutual friend’s shower together and in chatting about hers coming up she mentioned that she loved the pallet-board picnic style we had chosen for that shower… and from there my mind & imagination was filled with all kinds of beautiful ideas. I stll cannot believe how beautifully everything turned out and how all the brands on board went above & beyond to create the most magical day for our pregnant goddess, Angie.

THE ENTRANCE

Guests were welcomed through the front door with a beautiful Oh Baby Sign by Indigo and Ivory Designs, the balloons softening the sharp edges of the easel, thanks to YOLO Party Shop, and favors for the guests from both Africology (which included their amazing body butter, body wash, energy charge and sample sachets), and The Harvest Table collagen trial size.

The drinks table greeted guests once they came through to the undercover patio area, and they could help themselves to an orange juice, mimosa, bubbly, wine or Pura soda.

The beautiful set up you see behind the drinks table (more effectively seen in below pics) was the result of a vision I had for the photobooth wall, and pulled together by the incredibly talented Kay from Oak Celebrations, who did most of the styling, layout, decor, furniture and flowers. I actually feel my heart fill with joy as I think back to working with Kay on this event. If you are in KZN and looking for someone to make your party pop, Kay is your girl! She has so much passion, is a creative genius, and is so calm during set up, she gives off the vibe of saying silently to me; “Gurl, I got this, chill.”
And believe me, pre-event stress & gitters always get the best of me – but not this time. Not with Kay around. She was a breath of fresh air, and we clicked from the moment we met.

The wooden stand up boards were made by PinItCreations and the Oh Baby also by them. The balloons were by Yolo Party Shop and cascaded around the boards and flowers, bringing the story together beautifully. Flowers were ofcourse Oak Celebrations. Too beautiful for words.

THE PICNIC:

I had {thank goodness – you will read why} set my mind on needing to build a rustic pergola for the baby shower, I had hoped to have the picnic in the garden, but the days preceeding the event met us with pouring rain, and the day of the shower was possibly the windiest day of the year! I made the call to set the pergola up alongside our covered verandah which is very protected by the wind, and thank goodness we were comfortable there. I bought 5 pallets and the amazing handyman who built the pergola also helped me to heighten them by adding legs onto them, making our picnic a little more comfortable.

Like magic, Kay from Oak Celebrations transformed that rustic pergola into a boho-perfect picnic paradise. With hanging lanterns, flowers, greenery and finesse. I literally was covered in goosebumps when I arrived late at home on the Friday night and spotted her set up.

The food…. Oh Em Geeeeee the foooooood! Ros from Olive Twist Boutique Catering did the food for the baby shower and my goodness it was all so very delicious. I will let the pictures do the talking…

TABLE DECOR

The table styling was all done by Kay from Oak Celebrations. I begged & borrowed all the grass place mats and then Kay had all the glass placemats (bringing the shabby to chic), plates, cutlery, crockery and crystal glasses. The menus were done by the very talented Wendy-Leigh from Indigo & Ivory Designs. How absolutely beautiful are they? With the little stamp with gold leaf on top. Just beautiful. Indigo & Ivory Designs also supplied hand sanitizers for the tables. Working with Wendy-Leigh was an absolute dream. She was incredibly accomodating and loved that I gave her free reign to let her creativity spark. She absolutely knocked it all out the park!

The linen napkins were from Love Laugh Proteas, and Cindy was also incredibly helpful & willing to help wherever she could.

The keyrings were partially sponsored by Elysian Creative and made for the perfect name place settings, as well as a take-home for guests.

TREATS TABLE

No event is ever a party without cake, right? RIGHT!
We had so many delicious treats on the treat table. Starting with the main attraction, and possibly most complimented item at the event – Gracie’s Carrot Cake. Grace has a passion for cooking & baking, and I have never ever tasted a cake as delicious as Grace’s. It was highly appreaciated 🙂 and people asked if they could take home for hubbies too! The Rose Gold cake stand was sponsored by Love Laugh Proteas (I am in LOVE with it!!), and the topper was made by Indigo & Ivory Designs.

Krispy Kreme provided us with their ever-popular and delicious orginal glazed donuts, which also worked in beautifully with the neutral theme & decor.

Heart Chocolate provided us with utter deliciousness with their delicate chocolate truffles, which added a lovely touch to the sweet table.

The chocolate coated strawberries, brownie popsicles and chocolate heart with Lindt chocolate inside were sponsored by the very talented Dipped by Tasi. This young lady has started her business and truly deserves your business. The chocolate heart brought such a fun element to the shower, and I hid some little NIKE socks inside for the mama-to-be to find (alongside the Lindt balls).

It really was the perfect treat table for a baby shower.

MAMA-TO-BE

Love Laugh Proteas sponsored the beautiful mama-to-be’s flower crown, and it could not have been more perfect. Cindy is incredibly talented and once I showed her the mood board and invite for the event she said she knew exactly what she would do. Upon collecting it I literally couldn’t have smiled bigger if I tried…

LIGHT BOX LETTERS | MARQUEE LETTERS BABY

The BABY lights were sponsored by Ricardo. They have a stunning selection of letters and numbers available for any function and event. They really pop as the sun starts to go down.

FINAL TOUCHES

ShaeShwenk is a super talented illustrator and she kindly created some monochrome line drawings of our mama-to-be and family which I pegged up on a string picture holder. It added some personalisation to the set-up, which is always special.

GARDEN SEATING

It was a pity about the wind as this gorgeous set up went largely unused, but Kay from Oak Celebrations created this seating pod, which just looked so lovely, and would have been a perfect spot for the grannies (who were probably cursing me for making them sit at such a low table 🙂

Thank you so much to the above-mentioned service providers. I say it everytime I host an event, Durban really is spoilt with incredible suppliers who are so talented, passionate, and push the bar. This baby shower is yet another example of what is possible. Magic.

All pics partially sponsored by Melissa Mitchel Photography.

The incredible flower arch above the treat table was created by Jes & Jacqui, friends of the mam-to-be.
