Cape Town Cuisine | Where to eat

Dinner in the Cape

Cape Town in synonymous with great food & coffee… and let’s not forget wine! If you are a foodie then here is a short list of places you need to try, whether it be for brekkie, lunch, drinks or dinner. Enjoy!

We recently visited the beautiful Cape in Jan 2020 for two short nights before a family wedding in Stellies, and here were some of the places we ate and enjoyed:

BREAKFAST/BRUNCH:

Between Us.
It was a hidden little gem that I had seen spoken about on another blogger’s channel and made a note to visit – and I am so glad we did. I say hidden because we literally drove up and down the street looking for it. The name is somewhat hidden between the stairs and the gorgeous logo was behind a tree. I have added a few pics of the outside so you will know what to look for should you want to pay it a visit and taste the most divine coffee and granola. Sadly we arrived during load shedding and with no inverter or generator I couldn’t start my brekkie with a cuppa.. but we waiting until the power returned and it was well worth the wait, that’s for sure!

NOURISHD.
I did my research on TripAdvisor and Nourished. came up as the most highly rated breakfast spot, and so of course we had to pay it a visit! YOH! What an incredible experience. A tiny little spot that resembles a beach shack you would find in Bali, and in so many ways it made us feel like we were in Bali. You walk in and order and wait for a stool to open up in the very intimate, rustic (and warm) cafe.
I had a bowl and a flat white – both were incredible!
Jus had the avocado on toast and a smoothie and he enjoyed both.

LUNCH:

Junior.
I also heard about this little spot from a blogger (Tori from KBT), and it sounded like a fun place to try out. Juzzy and I had had a bit of wine the night before so a burger seemed like a fab idea – and oh my gosh one of the tastiest burgers I have ever had! The fries were not great at all but the burger was insane, and as for their home made iced tea – OMG! Nothing more refreshing or delicious!

DRINKS:
Sevruga.
We really only stopped here for a drink and a little nibble (some edamame beans – my favvvvv!). It is a special place with a gorgeous view of the harbour. To be honest the Edamame were not too great, but the chef made them especially for me – they are not on their menu – so I feel bad even critting them on the dish! They were just a bit undercooked… but I will take Edamame any which way I can get them 😉 The wine and the view made up for it and more.
It’s really a lovely little spot, with attentive waiters and the sushi looked incredible from what we saw heading onto other’s tables.

LUNCH OR DINNER:
Willoughbys.
You literally cannot visit the Cape without having sushi at Willouby’s at the V&A. It is just ridiculously good. Justin was underwhelmed at first by the fact that it is inside the mall itself, with no view and packed to the brim. It took only a few minutes for him to catch on to the appeal of the place and before he knew it he had joined the #WilloughbysFanClub
We had the 4×4 and the Bomb and we were both absolutely stuffed. I had the Edamame starter, duh! And of course we shared some Rosé. Just perfect.

SUNSET DINNER:

Camps Bay is perfect for a sunset drink and dinner, overlooking the beautiful white sand and blue ocean. We hadn’t booked and were very lucky to walk into the gorgeous restaurant on the second level of the strip:
BILBOA.
A beautiful, high end restaurant with impeccable service and delicious dinner. Despite us being further back in the restaurant (because we didn’t have a reservation), the view of sunset was just stunning and we were entertained by the quirks of our waiter named “Mr Russel”. He had some mad wine-pouring skills. A highly recommended dinner if you are not on too tight a budget. Such a fab experience.
