My Skin Care Routine | Serums

Something you may start to notice as you enter your 30s is that your skin looks less full. According to Dr Levin, a board-certified dermatologist specializing in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, cell turnover slows down, skin recovers less easily from inflammation, important proteins such as collagen and elastin breakdown faster and less is made and the naturally found skin plumping sugar known as hyaluronic acid starts to decrease. Forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, bags under the eyes, and more prominent laugh lines called nasolabial folds are all new things you might notice in your 30s (oh, the joys!). Changing hormones also contribute to many of these changes, specifically a loss of estrogen that causes us to lose volume and bone mass in our skull, cheekbones, and jawline.

Insert the need for serums here>>
Serums are skin care products that are designed to deliver high concentrations of specific active ingredients to the skin. There are many different types of serums on the market that perform different jobs, ranging from hydration to skin brightening.

My Skin Care Routine | Essence

Since an essence provides an extra layer of hydration, those with dry skin can obviously benefit. If aging is a major concern, this added boost of moisture can also help to alleviate fine lines and prevent wrinkles

My Skin Care Routine | Toners

I have learnt that it is imperative that those of us with oily or acne-prone skin use a toner. It helps to better unclog pores by removing oil, dirt and make up. By removing build up from your pores you also create the appearance of them shrinking. Bonus! Toners can help close pores and tighten cell gaps after cleansing, reducing the penetration of impurities and environmental contaminants into the skin. It can even protect and remove chlorine and minerals present in tap water. Source.

My Skin Care Routine | Exfoliators

This post stems of my orginal skin care post & overview here

Entering your 30s brings about various changes to your skin. One most noticable of these is that your skin may start looking more dull. There is a scientific reason for this: Your skin cell turnover slows down as early as your 20s. By the time you hit your 30s new cells are visible every 28-35 days, whereas they once turned over every 14 days or so when you were a child. What this means is that dead cells start accumulating on the surface of the skin and interfering with light reflection – so where you once reflected light off healthy cells in your face, there are more layers of dead or drying cells getting in the way of that bounce-to-glow. This is one of the main reasons that frequent exfoliation is key.

Skin Care for 30 somethings

After sharing on Insta the other day how grateful I am for my skin therapist (Adele) who has taken my skin on a journey of healing and improvement, I was inundated with messages asking me to please share what I am using, and what I used when I had acne breakout and pigmentation explosions in my pregnancies.
This post will cover my skin routine, linked to multiple posts with various products I love in those categories. I hope this post acts as a guide for you if you are a thirty-something looking to start taking care of your skin

While my skin has come such a long way, and I am thrilled with the texture and health of it, I still struggle with uneven skin tone, hormonal breakouts, and congestion. I am in my mid-thirties and so anti-aging products are high on my priority list as well, and so skin care is a place I invest a substantial amount of my salary into 😉 I certainly didn’t buy all these products in one go, so please don’t read this post and blow all your savings tonight! Building a skincare regime over time and in a way that best suits your budget is the best way to go, especially because you can slowly see, as you introduce new products into your routine, what products you do and don’t like, and understand what product is having what effect on your skin. If you go buck wild and purchase 8 new products overnight it will be impossible to know what you like or what product is responsible for potentially giving you a reaction. Easy does it. With skin care it’s always best to keep in mind that slow & steady wins the race and try avoid “quick fixes”!

#SpringInTheCity | Luxuria Lifestyle SA

Last Saturday, 7 September 2019, I flew to Johannesburg with butterflies in my belly in anticipation for the Luxuria South Africa Spring in the City event in collaboration with BMW Bavaria and 30 other luxury brands.

Upon arrival at the BMW Bavaria dealership the atmosphere was electric and exciting. Like orderly worker-bees driven by a common purpose, the Luxuria Lifestyle team, as well as multiple brands who partnered on the event, were focused and swift in tranforming a stunning car showroom into what would become the ultimate luxury event!

BMW i8 electric

I am a real BMW fan, so I was absolutley in my element watching these beautiful beasts gliding around the showroom in an attempt to make the best entrance possible for the expected guests. It was a treat seeing the new BMW i8 in action; I intentionally say ‘seeing’ and not hearing because this baby is electric and so very, veryyyy quiet. I feel the lightweight carbon-fibre gull wing doors make her look like she is a bird in flight. She is a real beauty! Maybe one day when I am big… 😉

10 beauty hacks for over 30s

I have to say, I love the way people are embracing getting older. I feel as though birthdays which took people, women particularly, out of their “prime” twenties were historically approached with hesitation, or sometimes even angst. It seems though, maybe it is just my perception (?!), but I honestly feel as though humans are embracing these ‘older’ years more graciously, maybe because we as a whole understand the gift of life, and of growing old with our loved ones. That said, though, its never easy for us gals to see those grey hairs sprouting, or have another wrinkle appear on our forehead!! Thankfully I believe there are many beauty tips and tricks us more mature lasses 😉 can invest in to try stay clear of invasive surgeries or extreme measures in anti-aging, because for me, as much I want to grow old graciously, I also want to look after this God-given body to my best ability, and if that comes with a few extra years of supple skin and glowing hair, then I want in! How about you?

It’s no secret that I love testing, trying and reviewing beauty products, treatments and sharing those I love with you guys. I am so fortunate to discover and uncover the value in new products and treatments, and share what I find has worked well for me. I’ve been asked to put together a list of those I love the most – so here you have it:

My 10 beauty hacks for over 30s:
The first 4 points centre around inner beauty – no matter what you do, if your insides are not healthy and happy your skin, hair and nails will never glow, no matter how much illuminator you apply !! 😉

Marc Anthony Grow Long | Review

It was about one month ago now that I received the new Marc Anthony Grow Long products, including the Shampoo, Conditioner, Volumizing Texture Spray, Miracle Repair Anti-Frizz Spray and the Volumizing Dry Shampoo. Upon first sight I was in love with the bright and fun PINK packaging, but if there is one thing us ladies have come to know very well, its less about what it looks like, and more about how it leaves your hair looking… so how did it measure up?

IMG_7695

Let’s start (at the beginning) with the Shampoo and Conditioner:

Marc Anthony Grow Long Caffeine & Ginseng Shampoo & Conditioner:
It has to be said that these are a definite new favourite in my hair care routine. The products contain Caffeine & Ginseng, as you can see on the front of the (gorgeous) packaging, and as if that is not enough, they also contain Vitamin E. All these products help promote hair growth, a healthy shine, repair dry brittle hair and keep your hair long because it is strong 🙂
I have got to say that my hair feels soft and sleek, looks shiny and happy, and smells beautiful – is there anything better than gorgeous smelling tresses?? Nope! The shampoo is a light blue fluid that is in my mind the perfect shampoo consistency – not too runny that falls through your fingers before you get it on your head, not too thick that it doesn’t feel like it cleans – just perfect! And I love how it foams up too.
The conditioner is the perfect cream consistency too, and feels super nourishing. It doesn’t even have to stay on too long before you can feel it detangling your tresses, and ready to rinse.
I have many friends who never put conditioner on their scalps, I don’t normally “lather” my scalp, but if I have recently had my colour done I like to nourish my scalp a little bit with conditioner for a brief few moments, and then rinse thoroughly.
Oh! Did I mention that I always shampoo at least twice?

Flavour of the month | Beauty. Skin. Hair

Hi lovelies!
It has been a good long while since my last “Flavour of the month” post!
I am so sorry about that! I am super excited to share this lot with you though! Hope you enjoy, let me know if you try any of them and what you think…

IMG_6484

Starting with the most important: Skin care. Because it doesn’t matter what you put on your face to pretty it up, if the base coat (your skin) is not clear and glowing, well then nothing will look all that good, will it?!
I have really been struggling with bad skin lately, and it seriously got me down last month. I just didn’t know what to do anymore, my self confidence took a huge knock, and nothing I was doing was helping. I had heard a lot about the new Eucerin range and I figured I should give it a try.
I have been so pleasantly surprised by this range, I honestly feel so happy that I found it.
