REVIEW | Sugar & Spice Spa

I was so excited when the lovely ladies at de Charmoy Estate invited me to enjoy and review their Sugar & Spice Spa. To be very honest too, though, I was also a little nervous, and I’ll tell you why; When it comes to treatments I am one fussy human. I would rather not have a treatment at all than suffer through a bad one, so knowing that I would give an honest review about my experience, I really hoped that my standards were going to be met #imsuchaBRAT

You guys, I can happily and honestly say, I was blown away! This little spa (I say little because it has only two treatment rooms), is a little slice of heaven!

I arrived at de Charmoy, and without knowing where the spa was I parked at The Chocolate Garden as I knew it from attending the media launch event. I was greeted by lovely Lauren, the owner. She guided me happily along my short walk to the spa, far enough away from anything to allow it my most favourite of features: absolute peace and quiet! Bliss for a mama of three!

There we were greeted by the most radiant of woman, Zama. Zama is the beautiful Sugar & Spice Spa therapist, who just oozes positive energy.

Lauren left us and Zama led me to a private and tranquil spot on the deck where I helped myself to a lovely little spread and chatted briefly to Lauren’s bubbly mom, Cathy.

Once I had filled in my treatment Card (and filled up my tummy), I was taken through for the first of my two treatments: a full body massage. And OH. MY. GOODNESS.

You guyyyyys! Zama’s hands are literally magic ✨

Everything about this treatment was perfect.
– the room was dimly lit
– there was a hanger for my clothes (warned you about my high standards!!)
– the music was perfect
– the towels were clean and soft
– Zama was just brilliant – her style of massage is EXACTLY my vibe! She made me feel relaxed, while still working out my stress, particularly in my neck and shoulders. Her hands never left me, no matter where in the room she was, she was perfectly attentive and asked if I was okay with the room temperature and pressure. For me a full body massage is not complete without my feet, and whatever Zama did to the tops of my feet still gives me goosies thinking about it! 🤗 I know…! I’m way too passionate about this guys, you can imagine how often I get a day to be pampered 🙄 #likenever so when I am spoilt like this, with a perfect treatment, I’m BEYOND excited!

Once my 60 minutes of bliss was over Zama left me to get up slowly and go outside for more refreshments. When I put my robe on I was pleasantly surprised by the stash of a slender bar of dark Lindt chocolate 😍🙌🏼 I love little surprises!!

After a short break I was taken across to treatment room two for my “Timeless Facial Treatment”. Once again the atmosphere was perfection and a burning candle gave off the most beautiful scent.

The facial was done using South African brand six. I have never had a facial using these products before but have to say I was more than pleasantly impressed. The all-natural products smelt and felt (#poet) lovely. It was an interesting experience to go from having hot steam on my face for the exfoliator, to then having freezing cold “marbles” placed in certain areas of my face. Apparently this aids in constructing blood vessels so the skin better absorbs the products.

The best part of all – how my skin literally glowed after my treatment. You guys, I’m not kidding, I’ve not managed to find the time for facials since I had Brooklyn. I used to go monthly. When I walked out of that treatment room I vowed that I would do my best to make the budget stretch and find the time to try get back to doing that for myself. My skin looks and feels soooo good, and it’s just such a feel-good moment when you look in the mirror and see your skin shining back at you, ✨ despite how much you were awake last night for the baby 😉

Thank you so much Zama & Lauren for having me at your beautiful piece of heaven, the pleasure truly was all miiiiiiiine x

  8. This sounds heavenly! I don’t spoil myself to treats like these, even more so living in a remote town in Zambia. BUT I will be in Durban until the end of February so would love to take advantage of these spoils…. before or after Baby Cokes is born!

  9. Oh my goodness! This is just what i need! Being a mom of 2 very busy boys! My son is 5 years old and does motocross! So I’m always full of sand and in gumboots 🙈
This spa treat will make my day!!
    Holding thumbs!!

  10. The way you describe Zama’s massage technique sounds just right! I’ve been dying to go to the Chocolate Garden and this would be the perfect opportunity! One of my goals for 2018 is to make a conscious effort to set aside “me time” -this would be an awesome start!

  12. Sounds divine my friend! What an amazing prize to win! Would love a little pamper time out.. fingers crossed- looks stunning!! Xx

  13. I’d love to win this after just losing a parent life has really taken its toll on me.I’d love this small pamper session as I’ve never had this experience before

  14. I can’t remember the last time I had a facial and I really need a pamper session to start the year

  15. We forget as busy moms to treat ourselves, putting our families first. It’s not a bad thing, but sometimes some quality “me-time” is needed. This competition is the perfect way to make a start for 2018 x

  16. I am as fussy as this when it comes to spa treatments Shan so I can totally relate to your review! You make it sound like a slice of heaven !!
I would love to win this treat for my lovely daughter who has just had the most beautiful baby. She is desperate for a spa treatment but also would rather not have one than suffer through a bad one .🤭

  17. I will definitely need this next week as I go back to school on Monday after a delightful holiday. Not looking forward to it at all. The heat is going to kill us, new restless children and most of all stationery handing out. Boy oh boy is it going to be hectic. Really really need thid

  18. Being a mum to two busy bodies doesn’t give me much time for myself. Would be an absolute dream to treat myself for a change.

  19. How fun! As much has as my heart would love the quiet time and pamper – I think my skin would be the most appreciative 🙂 Think the last time I had a facial was 6 years ago (gasp!)

  20. Sounds like a divine treatment. I am 9 months pregnant and expecting my little one this week so this would make an awesome treat for myself once I’ve survived keeping a baby alive and happy for a few weeks (perhaps a 6 week reward i think3 😉 )

  21. 2017 was a very difficult time for me. After being married for 19 years my husband and I separated and at the age of 40 I am trying to find myself again. My girls are teenagers now but I have never really done things for myself…. always put my family first. Life has shown me that you need to do things for yourself sometimes…. spoil yourself. A pampure at such a beautiful Spa so close to home sounds like heaven. We all need a little spoil some time in our lives. I want to come and bring my friend for our birthdays in Feb and try your breakfast menu….

  22. I need this after baby number 3. I’ve yet to give myself some ‘me time’. This would be the perfect excuse to schedule that time!

  23. Sounds amazing! Thanks Shan for the giveaway😊 I’m entering for my mum not myself. She definitely needs a pamper day as she’s been super busy over the holidays with all the family guests and did not get much time to relax. It would be amazing if I could treat her to this.

  24. Hi. I am a working mom of two sons. My baby has just finnished matric. Its been a long six months of whining, nagging and stressing and I am estatic that he has passed and has been accepted as an apprentice. Yes I know my jobs not done yet, what mothers’ ever is, but I just feel whew, whoohoo, we did it. I also just feel like a little me time to recourerate, the this sounds like the perfect treat.

  25. Your review on Sugar & Spice Spa, at de Charmoy Estate sounds like everything you’d want in a Spa treatment and more! Like so many mom’s, this is not something I do or treat myself to at all. It’s literally been years…(because Mom life right?) This would be an amazing, rejuvenating, time-to-recollect experience for me that would be so appreciated! Thank you for the awesome giveaway Shan!

  26. I am no different from any one of the other candidates who have entered in that I believe every girl deserves to be spoilt!
However I want to win this because I have never been to a spa before (very embarrassing, I know). I’ve just turned 40 last week and would be beyond ecstatic to treat myself to this pamper session. Holding thumbs!

  27. I would love to win this ….cause i so need it….i’ve been to quite a few spas and neva found my fav 1 yet …this place looks n sounds amazing👌🌈i love to be pampered 😍😍😍

  28. i need this so badly. i havent ever been to a spa. i have 4 kids and the baby is 7 mths old. no time for myself ever. hope i win.

  29. Gosh, every mummy deserves pampering….&so do I! There’s so much to do & take care of that we seldom make time for ourselves. I would sure like to win this just to de-stress & enjoy some me-time😊

  30. I’d LOVE to win this for my mom! She’s a single parent who does everything for my brother and I. She really deserves some time out and these treatments sounds DIVINE!

  31. Mmmmmm I would klimb a mountain for this treatment😉………. Single mom of a 13 going on 30 year old daughter and all the DRAMA that goes with😂😢….. Sjoewee, how did our Grandmothers do it with 5 and more kids.
