The thought of enduring a country-wide lockdown for 21days (or more) naturally brings with it a large dose of anxiety. Some of us will be in lockdown with our families which is wonderful in many ways… but children who are home-bound for any period of time will become more irritable their siblings, frustrated with their surroundings and test us in many ways. Moms will have shorter fuses, naturally taking on the strain of what is happening in our nation, also feeling stifled by the lack of external input, as well as exhausted by having our kids on top of and around us allllllll day long. Not to mention the unusual dynamic of having Dad/hubby around 24/7! In most cases Dads are just not used to being home for this amount of time, and it’s not likely to be smooth sailing for the duration of this isolation period, for anyone. All round we are unified in facing something we’ve never faced before. Many of us are going to be heavily impacted financially by this lockdown, and that brings with it its own stress. Others of us are preparing to isolate alone, with no one to share this time with, and days will be very long. Each of us is going to cope with this in our own ways, and it’s really important that we do our very best to keep mentally strong & positive.
Laken Folster is a counselling psychologist who has very kindly shared some helpful advice on how to maintain a healthy mental state during this lockdown, how to cope and get through this with a positive mindset:
In July I was asked to review the FitChef meals and I have been inundated by questions from you all asking how we found it and if I would recommend it! Justin and I were very kindly sent the 21 day couples challenge to try, and here are our thoughts:
Arrival: It is safe to say that the order process and delivery as well as packaging of the FitChef meals impressed me from the minute the delivery man arrived with 4 (rather large) boxes, chilled and sealed. Opening the boxes was one of the most exciting unboxes I have done this year, and I couldn’t stop grinning from ear-to-ear at the thought of not having to meal-plan, prep or cook for Justin and I for at least 21 days! Bliss!
It was about one month ago now that I received the new Marc Anthony Grow Long products, including the Shampoo, Conditioner, Volumizing Texture Spray, Miracle Repair Anti-Frizz Spray and the Volumizing Dry Shampoo. Upon first sight I was in love with the bright and fun PINK packaging, but if there is one thing us ladies have come to know very well, its less about what it looks like, and more about how it leaves your hair looking… so how did it measure up?
Let’s start (at the beginning) with the Shampoo and Conditioner:
Marc Anthony Grow Long Caffeine & Ginseng Shampoo & Conditioner:
It has to be said that these are a definite new favourite in my hair care routine. The products contain Caffeine & Ginseng, as you can see on the front of the (gorgeous) packaging, and as if that is not enough, they also contain Vitamin E. All these products help promote hair growth, a healthy shine, repair dry brittle hair and keep your hair long because it is strong 🙂
I have got to say that my hair feels soft and sleek, looks shiny and happy, and smells beautiful – is there anything better than gorgeous smelling tresses?? Nope! The shampoo is a light blue fluid that is in my mind the perfect shampoo consistency – not too runny that falls through your fingers before you get it on your head, not too thick that it doesn’t feel like it cleans – just perfect! And I love how it foams up too.
The conditioner is the perfect cream consistency too, and feels super nourishing. It doesn’t even have to stay on too long before you can feel it detangling your tresses, and ready to rinse.
I have many friends who never put conditioner on their scalps, I don’t normally “lather” my scalp, but if I have recently had my colour done I like to nourish my scalp a little bit with conditioner for a brief few moments, and then rinse thoroughly. Oh! Did I mention that I always shampoo at least twice?
NOTE: This post is from last year’s party !! Very delayed haha
My boys are almost exactly 2 years apart, and for the longest time they shared birthday parties which made so much sense because they shared many of the same friends and it was silly to spend double, 2 weeks apart. As they have grown older, however, it has become all the more evident that they are very different little personalities, and wanted something very different out of their parties. Jordan Rock is “friends with everyone”. The more the merrier for him as he wound invite everyone he has ever met to his party if possible. Jackson, on the other hand, is far more reserved, with fewer close friends, and when it came to planning their parties last year it was clear that he wanted something small, intimate, and mainly with his closest male-friends from school. He couldn’t not invite two of his best girl-friends too, Chloe and Sophie. Continue reading “Pirate Party | Jackson turns 6”
On Saturday 8 June I hosted a baby shower in my home for one of my best friends, Natasha. She is expecting her second baby in less than a month, and will be one of the lucky mama’s with two under two 🙂
My Tashi is not one for a fuss and likes to keep things simple, but I really wanted to make the day special, and with limited time on my hands for planning, buying and setting up I am ever-grateful for the kind collaborations of POSH events – another beautiful Natasha, who plans, sources, manages, sets up and breaks down all of my events. It was my first time collaborating with, (but not my first time using) balloon extraordinaire; Taryn, from Mad Hatters Party Shop in Ballito.
We were gifted with a term of Nurturing Nannies classes, and I can honestly say that it was the most wonderful gift, and it blessed three of us: me, my daughter and my nanny… truly the gift that kept on giving 🙂
We decided that, for a few reasons, we were not quite ready to send our little last-born lamb to school just yet, and that meant she would be at home with me when I was home, but mostly with her other mommy; her Nanny, Fungai. Continue reading “Nurturing Nannies | WIN”
We celebrated our little baby girl with the most perfectly PINK party, put together by the incredibly talented and wonderfully special Natasha Parsons from POSH Events. Historically I have always taken huge pride in throwing my kids’ parties myself, but I found myself without the time and energy, and Tash was an absolute lifesaver, and allowed me to feel completely part of the process, beginning to end!
I honestly cannot sing Tash’s praises highly enough. She heard my dreams for the party, put together a mood boards, worked within budget, and went above and beyond in terms of effort and time on this party. The details that she added to the event were too special, and she is made for this party planning life!
Our little two year old absolutely loved being the centre of attention, and particularly loved her jumping castle, and spent hours on it before, during and after the party!
Tash did all the decor – complete with perfume bottles that resembled the Chanel No 5 bottles #LOVE
She arranged all the suppliers and all set up and break down of all items. This included the balloons, of which a few of the tutu balloons popped before the party stared due to the wind and Tash arranged for the supplier to come back and do some more for us!!
One of the most emotionally taxing experiences of my life so far
A few weeks ago we were invited to go away with friends to Phinda Bayete for a weekend in the bush. I have never been to Phinda, and being invited to this exclusive “Friends of Phinda” camp was such a treat for us. With the help of Justin’s mom and an Aupair who cared for our babies, we escaped for what was destined to be a magical weekend. We had no idea just what an experience was ahead of us! Justin and I went on a date night last night for the first time in what felt like forever. Life has just been really busy and to be honest we have been really bad at putting aside time for each other. Having spent an evening together, sitting opposite one another in a romantically-lit setting, with someone waiting on us (rather than us waiting on 3 kids), and enjoying a delicious meal together was so great for us last night and just what we needed! Here is why I think making time for “Date Night” is so important:
